Writing poetry, I find to be a beautiful and healing outlet of emotions whether happy or sad. I started using this tool from the time I learned to write. It's a bit funny, when I stumble over some of the writings form that early time, because of my choice of words, the insecure penmanship and the "interesting" spelling. And what it reminds me of, is how important it has always been for me to express myself. Before I could write, my mom told me, I would sit on the neighbors swing singing from the top of my lungs, songs I made up on the spot :-)
